  1. After seeing posts about a $25 WINSOCK for SLIP/PPP I immediately went out
  2. and got the book (The WINDOWS INTERNET Tour Guide) that comes with this
  3. software.
  4.  
  5. For me, the TRUMPET WINSOCK was a 5 minute install, including scripting.
  6.  
  7. The 'WINDOWS INTERNET TOUR GUIDE' on the other hand was not!!!
  8.  
  9. Sure, it would have been easier if I could have used one of the default
  10. configurations of several large service provides (which the person who
  11. got there WINSOCK up in running in 5 minutes was probably subscribed to),
  12. but I work for a University and the terminal server is setup a bit different.
  13. So I had to spend a bit of time going through the README file on script
  14. commands (I would rate the TRUMPET WINSOCK scripting better than what was
  15. presented in the REAME file).  I have still not gotten the script language
  16. from the book to recognize the IP address.  Whereas with TRUMPET WINSOCK
  17. it was no problem.  I am using the README's command '-i' and watching the
  18. 'LOG' file but the CHAMELEON WINSOCK that comes with the book doesnt
  19. seem to pick it up.  Now I may be doing something wrong.  It just
  20. seems the TRUMPET WINSOCK handles it better for my environment.

  22. Also the books WINSOCK only gave me modem speeds to 19.2KB in the pull
  23. down configuration using CSLIP even though I am using CYBERDRIVE and
  24. have a 16550AF serial card.  Once again, I may not have it setup right
  25. but with TRUMPET WINSOCK it was right there in the configuration window.

  27. As far as installation and support to conect to a terminal server go,
  28. TRUMPET WINSOCK does it better.

  30. Now there are other issues to consider...

  50. Can some suggest some programs to run with Winsock?  Specifically a 
  51. newsreader, Telnet, FTP, Gopher, WWW, WAIS clients?  Newsreader wise, I 
  52. am looking for a  threaded newsreader, with uuencode/uudecode capibilites.
